Results of the Cavally Cocoa Farmer Data Study
Field data quality is the key to EUDR compliance but difficult to achieve. Managing farmer data is a continuous activity due to the 20% average annual farmer churn in registries. Various factors such as x, y, and z can lead to this churn. To ensure accuracy, it is advisable to remap farmers every 2 to 3 years. To gain a better understanding of data management practices and their maturity levels among cooperatives and traders, Meridia conducted a “Cocoa Farmer Data Study” in the Cavally region of Côte d’Ivoire in 2022/2023.
This innovative study, funded by the Rabo Foundation, aimed to deliver a clear picture of the quality of farmer field data at the cooperative level and shine a light on the risks and compliance levels in the context of EUDR legislation. Meridia performed a detailed assessment of the maturity levels of cooperatives, which included assessing their capabilities around collecting and managing data as well as identifying areas that require
improvement.
