The likely impacts of the EUDR on small coffee farmers in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, and how to support them

It is estimated that about 10% of Vietnam’s 650,000 small coffee farms can be considered as ‘high-risk’ as regards their likely compliance with the proposed EUDR. Most of the high-risk farms are on or adjacent to encroached ‘designated forest’ land, whether the land is still forested or not. The main determinant of potential compliance is the legality of land use. This study identified three types of coffee farms, which each has a set of appropriate actions or measures, whether this is to mitigate potential negative livelihood
impacts, or to enhance compliance with the EUDR.
